Q. What happens when my child arrives in the UK?
A. There will be a representative of the SKOLA team waiting to meet them in the arrivals lounge of the airport. There will also be a taxi or bus waiting with a responsible adult to take your child to Exeter where they will be met by the host family.
Q. Can you tell me about the host family?
A. All families have been recruited and visited by the accommodation officer to ensure that they are a suitable family to look after our students. All family members aged 18 and above will have a DBS check (police criminal records check)along with 2 references. Most students will stay in twin rooms unless they request otherwise. We will try not to place 2 students from the same country in a host family unless students request otherwise.
Q. What meals will my child receive in the host family?
A. A typical English breakfast is toast and cereal with juice. A packed lunch of sandwiches, crisps, fruit and a drink. A freshly cooked evening of meat, fish, pasta or rice + vegetables and/or salad.
Q. How will my child get to and from school?
A. The host family will take your child to school and collect them at the end of the first day. After that they will take a bus or walk if close by.
Q. What happens after school?
A. Students will return to the host family where they will have dinner. There will be 2 after school activities (Tuesday & Thursday from 6.00 – 8.30 approximately). Students will spend rest of evenings with the family.
Q. What happens at the weekend?
A. There will be a full day excursion on Saturday. Sunday will be spent with the family.
Q. What happens if my child is ill?
A. All SKOLA students are covered by our insurance. Students who become ill can see a doctor.
Q. What happens if my child is homesick?
A. We will carefully monitor all children each day. If we think any child is becoming homesick that child will receive support from the SKOLA team and the host family.
Q. What happens if my child misses the flight home?
A. A SKOLA member of staff will stay with any child who misses their flight until a new flight has been arranged.
